Join us! Donate, volunteer, spread the word...
A small donation goes a long way with the Chijnaya Foundation. The Foundation is run largely by volunteers, with the assistance of one paid staff member. Your contribution goes directly to projects because over 90 percent of administrative costs are covered by donations from Board members. Every year, between one third and one half our board members travel to Puno to administer and oversee our projects, and we aim to make every project independent and self-sustaining as quickly as possible.
Consider the following:
♦ With a $30 donation, we can pay for materials for a mobile incubator to monitor water quality and identify dangerous e Coli and coliform bacteria.
♦ With a $50 donation, we can fund 13 people to see a visiting dentist in their community ($3.82 per person).
♦ With a $250 donation, we can pay for a LaMotte water quality monitoring kit utilized by our lake basin defenders to identify changes in water quality and point sources of pollution.
♦ With $300, we can make it possible for a rural student to attend the university for a semester.
♦ With a $325 donation, we can fund a loan for a feeding trough that reduces production costs for livestock farmers.
♦ With a $400 donation, we can fund a revolving loan that can build an animal shed every year until an entire rural community is served. Each shed raises household income by as much as 40 percent per year.
The Chijnaya Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, incorporated in the State of New Mexico and approved by the IRS. Contributions are tax deductible to the maximum extent allowed by law.
Donors may contribute to the general project fund, or they may designate specific projects they wish to support with their donation. We also heartily welcome inquiries by kindred spirits whose skills can be put to good use. We have paired communities in Puno with volunteer doctors, farmers, dentists, food and craft marketing specialists with promising results. In the U.S., we also seek creative insight from graphic artists, web specialists, and individuals with grant-writing and fundraising experience.
