Department of Global Health, Loma Linda University School of Public Health
The mission of the Department of Global Health of Loma Linda University’s School of Public is founded on Christian values of love for and service to humanity and stewardship of the earth¹s resources. The department aims to educate individuals who will be ethically compassionate and culturally competent professionals engaging communities, especially the poor, disadvantaged, and underserved to help them achieve an optimal level of health and development.
Integrated Community Development is a capstone course in the curriculum designed to prepare public health specialists who are capable of addressing the complexities of global health and development. The course has been given annually in Peru since 2006. Beginning in 2007 The Department of Global Health and the Chijnaya Foundation have partnered in offering Loma Linda students the opportunity to live with families in Chijnaya and other small Andean communities, to collaborate in hands-on projects, and to learn first hand about the complexities of health, educational, and economic development issues.
