The Chijnaya Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce today that it has named Makensie Brown as the new General Operations Manager effective April 2023. Brown brings a wealth of experience in the non-profit sector in Latin America, and a passion for positive change within developing communities.
“We are delighted that Makensie Brown will become the Operations Manager of the Chijnaya Foundation. Makensie’s record of outstanding leadership in the non-profit sector demonstrates that she shares the values of the Chijnaya Foundation and our commitment to community directed economic development. We are confident she will help lead the Chijnaya Foundation to further success in our efforts to address extreme poverty in the Peruvian altiplano,” said board chair Susan Bourque.
Brown comes to the Foundation from her role as Digital Media Specialist at Wildlands Network, a nonprofit focused on conserving North America’s wildlife and wild spaces. Prior to Wildlands Network, Brown worked with Habitat for Humanity in both Chile and Guatemala in different capacities, focusing extensively on resource development, communications, and volunteer management. During her time as International Resource Development Director at Habitat for Humanity Guatemala, Brown helped secure millions of dollars in funding for various community development projects in rural areas of the country. She believes firmly in empowering communities to build capacities and implement self-sustaining activities that will improve their quality of life.
Brown holds a B.A. degree in Spanish and Graphic Design and Visual Communications (‘14) from Buena Vista University.
“I could not be more grateful to join the Chijnaya Foundation and form part of an extremely talented team that is providing humanitarian, technical, and development assistance to the communities in the Andean highlands of Southern Peru,” says Brown. I look forward to partnering with these communities to design and implement self-sustaining projects in health, education, and economic development. I will strive to maintain the organization’s high level of standards in philanthropy and will continue to expand upon our impact in the more than 40 communities where we are currently working.”
Brown’s appointment concludes a three-month national search process completed by a search committee led by Abigail Levine. “Makensie’s deep expertise in fundraising, communications, and program administration will be key to the Chijnaya Foundation’s next phase of growth, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our leadership team,” says Levine.
Please join the Board of Directors of the Chijnaya Foundation in welcoming Makensie Brown to our community.
