Give the Gift of Education and We’ll DOUBLE Your Contribution

Between December 1st-31st, all donations to the Scholarship Program will be matched up to $20,000

As 2021 comes to an end, we want to send you a heartfelt thank you for your generosity and commitment to the Quechua communities of the Altiplano. In previous newsletters we featured projects that communities themselves designed to improve the family economy. In this newsletter we are highlighting the impact of the Scholarship Program and the deserving students that you support. Equitable access to higher education not only helps indigenous communities to thrive economically, but also promotes their leadership in different academic and career fields.

2021 SCHOLAR SPOTLIGHTS

Since 2007, your support has provided 548 scholarships to high school graduates from rural communities in the Altiplano, enabling them to pursue higher education. In 2013, scholarship recipients organized a group called Mosoq Riqchari, which is Quechua for New Dawn. The group meets throughout the year to share their experiences and use their fields of study to implement projects that help solve some of the challenges their home communities face. Recent projects have included training local artisans in digital marketing, improving nutrition in high altitude communities, and tutoring young children during the COVID pandemic to decrease learning loss. This group not only helps students give back to their communities, but also provides a space to practice self-governance and to network with other students who are also the first generation in their family to pursue higher education.

Create a Named Scholarship and We’ll Double Your Contribution

Funding a named scholarship is a wonderful way to pay tribute to a loved one’s memory, honor a person in your life, or create opportunities for students who are pursuing a specific field of study. A gift of $1,000 provides a scholarship to one student for one year. Please reach out to [email protected] for more information on how to create a named scholarship this holiday season. You can read about current named scholarships below and you can support an existing scholarship with your donation by specifying it on the donation form. We received a grant that will match all donations made to the Scholarship Program up to $20,000! That means, when you create a named scholarship, contribute to an existing scholarship, or make a donation to the program, we will DOUBLE your contribution.

In closing, we want to thank you again for playing a vital role in supporting community-led initiatives to increase family income, improve community health, and provide access to higher education in rural Altiplano communities. Please continue to invest in these communities through the Chijnaya Foundation as 2021 comes to an end and do not hesitate to contact us or other board members with feedback or questions.

Sincerely,
